Well thanks for the post covering the Bush Doctrine,
The statements and speeches , when taken in total, will let others see which way we are headed, but are difficult to put into fewer and clearer words.
Individual portions can be discussed or pictured in positive or negative ways, but overall it shows what response the US will try to develop, or positions we will take, as the world relationships change.
Perhaps it says, we will use all available resources to prevent the economic or physical destruction of our homeland or people. That we will reach out beyond our shores to eliminate those who try to implement acts or support people that threaten us or have sworn to destroy us.
It does, therfore, usurp various attempts and aspirations of the UN to talk Nations leaders into peace- which ultimately fails when resolutions are ignored and treaties abandoned.
And so causes much dissension.
My position is that the cost of doing nothing about Terrorists and threats would be much higher than the costs of doing what has been done, There was no mention of making our sworn enemies into ever-loving friends, considering how appeasement worked in the case of N Korea and other situations like dealing with Hitler.
