I thought the price spike itself would be the "morally right thing" to do from the perspective of liberals. It will help ween us off of oil, which in turn will send less of our money to the Middle East. People would be forced to conserve, and you'll have less of those "evil SUVs" on the road. Alternative energy sources would then be pursued and made more viable. And Mother Earth will thank us for dumping less (harmful) pollutants into the air.

Unfortunately, those paranoid souls who need a big SUV to feel safe are unswayed by higher oil prices. The reason: they can afford the higher........their president got them a major tax cut.

Of course, our economy would take a massive hit, while our rivals like the EU and China would suddenly find themselves with cheaper oil.

Because of their progressive bent, the EU dealt with higher oil prices long ago and would be less effected than the US. As for China, I am unclear what you mean.......the world price of oil doesn't vary from country to country.
