Mcdata going after Qlgc in the entry level switch market:

BROOMFIELD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 2003--McDATA(R)
Corporation (Nasdaq:MCDTA)(Nasdaq:MCDT), the expert provider of
multi-capable storage networking solutions, today announced a new,
low-cost fabric switch, the McDATA's Sphereon(TM) 4300, and new
versions of its SANavigator(R) and EFCM SAN Management Platform.

Sphereon 4300

Built specifically to meet the needs of the smallest enterprises,
as well as the edge requirements of larger companies, the Sphereon
4300 is available as a four-port switch, and with McDATA's exclusive
FlexPort technology can be upgraded to eight and 12 ports, without
disruption to data traffic.

The Sphereon 4300 includes McDATA's HotCAT technology, which
allows customers to perform upgrades to their storage networks,
without disruption to data traffic.

The Sphereon 4300 will be available to McDATA's storage OEMs,
master resellers and value-added resellers and distributors beginning
August 11.

SANavigator 4.0/EFCM 8.0

The upgraded storage network management software solutions now
leverage a shared code base into a common SAN Management Platform to
deliver a comprehensive, customizable set of storage management
capabilities. The solutions deliver improved flexibility, scalability
and multi-vendor capability from the core to the edge, array to host
and element management to storage management in products designed to
fit a wide range of needs for OEMs, end-users and resellers.

The framework provides significant increases in functionality to
meet the specialized needs of McDATA customers, OEMs and their end
users by allowing for the licensing of pluggable sets of optional
key-activated services modules. McDATA's storage OEM partners can
selectively strengthen their storage management offerings, while end
users gain a set of services that enable IT shops to offer a storage
service utility.
