NC,
a couple of thoughts this morning.
Saw Howard Dean and Bob Graham on Larry King last night. Graham seemed more credible to me because he is hawk on the war on terror and I, being a new yorker, as we approach september with terror threats swirling and what appears to be an al quaida attack in indonesia today, Hawks on the war on terror are what we need. Cant give the bush admin more than a B- so far on that front so there is room for democrats there. Also if the economy doesnt respond to the printing press, which is what is really going on, there is a second issue. Dean reminded me of Eugene McCarthy and i wonder whether Graham or Gore will emerge before this all over. In any case, despite current polls, Bush is vulnerable to events. We need allies in iraq to bear some of the burden and we must get back to fighting al quaida with extreme force wherever they are. Those afgan/pak and afgan/iran borders are not sacrosanct to me.
By focusing so much on iraq, we naturally took our eye off al quaida. Time to prove we can walk and chew gum at the same time, hopefully with a little help from our friends who in my view really are on the firing line with al quaida this time around. Mike
