GROUND ZERO, why do you find comfort in citing the number of people who die on a regular basis in non-Iraqi war accidents? If an employer had a dangerous condition at work that was killing 2 employees every year and he didn't remedy it, would you say that we should put that in perspective and review the number that died in bathroom falls? Would that number make it OK, or better, or less negligent, or comfort the family of the dead? Does that kind of thinking comport with the ideals of America that each of us is entitled to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?"
I don't think so. I imagine that you'd say to that employer; why didn't you fix that problem? How could you have been so callous that you allowed those under your supervision to die? Why is that? I think it's because we understand the difference between what happens to others in the course of everyday life, AND THE OBLIGATION THAT WE HAVE TO PROTECT THOSE UNDER OUR CONTROL FROM DYING IN OUR SERVICE.
Is it somehow more forgivable when it's us, through our government, that sends those young people to their deaths? I don't care if it's one person or 1,000 or what the number is, in my opinion there's NOTHING more criminal than sending our young people to die untimely deaths, to come home injured, maimed, and with hollow eyes, after wreaking death and destruction on other human beings, without first determining that there is NO other choice AND that the cause is JUST and the LIKELY outcome will ADVANCE that just cause. That goes for decisions to continue the conflict as well.
So, Ground Zero, you can take your "since March, 1800 people died from falls, just falling down..." and shove it up your ass. All it proves is that you, like many who so guiltlessly disassociate themselves from the real troops who pay the price, are a bean counter without any real compassion for the lives that are altered forever, lost and ruined in service to Americans like me and, unfortunately, you.
Next time you see the family of a murdered child, remind his parents that thousands of children die from accidents and injuries every year and ask them what they're angry about. If the murderer was released from prison by mistake or because of a bribe, put the issue of whether someone should be punished for that release in "perspective" by pointing out the statistical number of children that died from all other causes on the same day. While you're doing that, look in the mirror and ask yourself whether you're not just like all the other bean counters who have depersonalized the deaths of faceless strangers that they've sent to die for causes THEY would NEVER have seriously risked their own lives for?
If you insist on posting such a disgusting justification for the war, you can expect that people that really do SUPPORT OUR TROOPS will continue to find you truly disgusting. You can count me among that number. |
