Jackpot winner robbed
An estimated $545,000 was stolen from Powerball winner Jack Whittaker's sport utility vehicle early today outside a Cross Lanes strip club, but the money was later recovered, police said.

Whittaker won $314 million, the largest Powerball jackpot in history, last Christmas.

The Scott Depot resident chose to accept the $170.5 million cash option before taxes. Whittaker already was the millionaire owner of a Putnam County equipment company.

Since then, he has established a charity, The Jack Whittaker Foundation. The foundation has given away at least $3 million to area churches.

When he gave away $1.5 million to the Hinton Church of God several months ago, he appeared in a white hat instead of his trademark black hat. He said the change was symbolic.

"I'm trying to be a good guy," he said.
