Right. Now that the right-wing whackjobs have blown Wilson's wife's CIA cover, they're working backwards to smear Wilson as a "Democrat" or somesuch. I think the whackjobs sort of got the order reversed here, they did the desperation measure first rather than starting out with mere political smearage. Or maybe they tried blackmail first, who can say?

Then there's the question of why, if there was ever actually any real evidence behind the Niger crapola, W's smear artists don't just put the whole thing to rest by producing it. Funny, they haven't seen fit to do that. It couldn't possibly because there is no evidence, just like the WMD search couldn't possibly have come up empty because there's nothing to find. When true believers believe something, it has to be true. Reality in the conventional sense of the word has nothing to do with it.
