IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 2003--Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC - News):
* Six Platforms Include CardBus, Mini-PCI and Access Point Solutions * Support for 5GHz and 2.4GHz Applications
Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC - News), a leading manufacturer of power management integrated circuits, announced today that two of its advanced InGap HBT power amplifiers have been chosen for six different reference designs from Atheros Communications, Inc.
Atheros customers will use these reference designs to develop individual CardBus, mini-PCI and access point products for 5GHz and 2.4GHz wireless LAN installations. The new designs are for either 802.11g applications, or for the 802.11 a/b/g networks made possible by the latest universal chipset from Atheros.
Microsemi already supplies 5GHz power amplifiers for Atheros' second-generation CardBus and mini-PCI reference designs. Now, Microsemi adds power amplifiers for Atheros' latest generation 11g and 11a/b/g client and access point solutions.
"Wireless LAN continues to be one of the strongest areas for growth within the electronics marketplace," commented James J. Peterson, Microsemi President and Chief Executive Officer. "We have been pleased to be included in many innovative wireless LAN reference designs from Atheros, a leader in this field," he said.
Atheros' new reference designs include Microsemi's LX5510(TM) amplifier for 802.11g applications and the LX5506(TM) amplifier for 802.11 a/b/g systems. Both Microsemi amplifiers were designed in an advanced InGaP/GaAs HBT RFIC fabrication process that allows them to consume minimal current while providing sufficient gain to achieve the required output power. Power amplifiers are critical in determining the range, bandwidth and power consumption of WLAN systems.
