Arabs Rebuff U.S. Request To Send Troops To Iraq
When you listen to the neo-cons talk, the groupthink becomes apparent. Cheney or Wolfowitz will use a phrase like "dead ender", and within a couple of days, they all are parroting the identical phrase. For over a decade the neo-con "cabal" (their word for themselves) reinforced their groupthink fantasy of an American Hegemony. Worldwide in scope, the first step was the Middle East region, with the linchpin being Iraq. So, when the war began in March, a satisfaction that only comes with the fulfillment of a long delayed dream, swept the neo-con ranks.
But something else occurred with the beginning of that war. Under reported and little noticed at the time, especially by the sycophant mainstream press, its consequences were far reaching. Thanks to Scott, we got the message.

Few realized that this event signaled a Bin Luddite victory.
The neo-con dream was soon shown to be a fantasy by the welcome the US troops received. Yes, the Iraqis were glad to see Saddam go, but “flowers” for foreign unbelievers were scarce. Bremer was recently back in the US as part of the Admin’s effort to “whip up support” for the Iraqi “adventure”. One of his main points was the “appointment” of the “Governing Council”. Why? Because it showed we were proceeding according to plan. The problem is it’s the neo-con’s plan, and nobody else uses the same “play book”. With the exception of Chalabi’s cohorts, Iraqi’s question the council's legitimacy. Now, surprise, surprise, so does the Arab League.
The problem is “True Believers” never abandon their fantasies easily. Instead, when confronted with a reality contrary to their cherished beliefs, an ever more fantastic set of explanations is offered As they “press-on” in their cause, groupthink synergistically reinforces their denial. That others refuse to share the fantasy is viewed as an obstacle to be overcome – not as a reason for reassessment.
This could be seen as a farce were the consequences not so tragic – for the Iraqis, for “coalition” troops, for American status and security.
