Well, beginning with Paul, the Church took the Old Testament advisedly, making a pretty coherent distinction between those things required under the Old Covenant, and those under the New, and making a distinction between those laws that were ritual and those that were natural. It would be conceivable to rework things further if there were a coherent theory that explained the revision without undermining the source of authority. But doing it under a vague notion of the text being old- fashioned, and out of step with enlightened views, is not sufficient.....
