One curious feature of much of this leftist writing is the way they assume that their assumptions are obvious to everybody. They assume that the Iraq War was a colossal failure that has "blown the strategy of pre-emptive war out of the water" and is now a hopeless quagmire, so no need to argue about it!

A neutral observer might point on that the Americans conquered Iraq in three weeks, and are now facing low-level and scattered guerilla resistance, mainly concentrated in the Sunni triangle, with pretty decent cooperation from the rest of the country. Not, on the face of it, a "failure" or a "quagmire", particularly as it is now only five months since the start of the war. Surely the jury still out as to how things will turn out in the end.
