I think the 49'ers are in big trouble.

>>Uh oh. Just when you thought it was safe to take Jeff Garcia at drafts and auctions, the smurfy quarterback misses Tuesday’s practices after experiencing back pain during warm-ups.

This is particularly troublesome because Garcia has been limited in team drills ever since injuring his back in a pre-training camp work out. Doctors have diagnosed him with a bulging disk that probably needs weeks—if not months—to properly heal.

You don’t need me to tell you that training camp injuries tend to get worse before they get better once the regular season begins. The Niners need to shut Garcia down for a few weeks and hope he and Terrell Owens can hit the ground running in week one.

Speaking of Owens, he also skipped practice, and word from Niners’ camp is that he may not play in the exhibition opener. New head coach Dennis Erickson said Owens, who did practice on Monday, was held out Tuesday because he had sore legs.

Again, reading between the lines, it’s pretty obvious that Owens wanted yet another beautiful California day off and Erickson went with the flow because he's a pushover. To be sure, the inmates are running the asylum in San Francisco.<<
