As for those Americans who go to China and still want to eat at McDonald’s, here is the deal: a Big Mac would cost you about US$1.3. But even though 1.30 USD ain't much, compared to regular local restaurants it's very steep from what I experienced in good cheap local fare. The local McDonalds in Beijing and the KFC in Hangzhou I saw were crowded. Likely a status symbol of sorts ? (as wonky as that seems to us).
