You have not followed the whole argument, which is that by violating heterosexual sensibilities on this score, we erode the ability of society to make any claims with regard to appropriate sexual behavior, for example, in discouraging promiscuity or heavy sexual experimentation among the pubescent.

Society accepts homosexuality because it is deeply ingrained in most people, and because it seems harmless enough. But it resists considering it to be a matter of complete indifference, and considers heterosexuality to be better. Refusing to consider civil union "marriage" is the last bastion of honoring the difference. It is a small step from treating the bias in favor of heterosexuality as an unreasoning prejudice, and treating any social preferences in regards to sexual behavior as unreasoning prejudice.........
