I am incredulous that anyone cannot see that amendment is to homophobia as states rights was to segregation
Well, be incredulous to me, then, because I don't see those situations as parallel at all.
Yes, some states rights advocates were segregationsists, and wanted to maintain states rights to ensure the continuation of segregation. But states rights issues went back to the very founding of the nation, were enshrined in the Constitution, and but for Marshall, who had no problem "interpreting" the Constitution to fit his political agenda, might well have prevailed over federalism as the dominant organizing principle of the nation. To say that states rights advocates were somehow supporting segregation is, IMO, a bit like saying clockmakers support terrorism because clocks are often used in making bombs.
I'm also disappointed in you for using the inaccurate and intentionally loaded term "homophobia." That term was cooked up by the homosexual rights lobby to try to make it look as though people who didn't agree with their agenda had a mental illness, a phobia. It highlights one of the issues I have with the gay lobby, that they intentionally abuse language and truth to promote their selfish and self-centered agenda. It is rampant dishonesty, and the fact that they feel the need to use rampant dishonesty to try to push their cause makes me realize that they realize that they can't prevail on simple truth and the merits. |
