I don't think there is too much hope for an outsider like Dean to take the Dem nomination... unless he gets the VP slot. We have seen these maverick candidates before- McCain, etc. However, the Dean campaign is useful in that there are some common themes that are resonating with voters and his popularity means somebody has to listen. Dean appears to be pro-labor, even pro-organized labor which is really scary for us free market capitalists to conceive of.

The problem we have is that after all these corporate scandals and now the relentless offshoring and wage/benefit cuts at large US corps, Joe citizen is getting a little fed up with corporate america and Dean is personifying that sentiment. These CEOs better sit up and take notice and start treating people better, if they don't its a resurgence of the unions which nobody wants. The Dean campaign can shed a light on these issues before things get out of hand. Healthcare is one matter that needs to be solved period, or else the outcome will not be pretty (a Hillary-style huge social program).

The fact that Dean feels a balanced budget is important means a lot to me.
