Mark, let's turn this around

<<i did read the report when it came out. that's why i said "real-world trials or
testing". the only true testing ground is in the field, and there AWRE has
virtually no presence.

WSTL is in ~50 trials worldwide, AMTX in scores, ALA all over the place.
ORCTF in dozens. Where are AWRE and its partners? >>

Mark, it is a big step from "no one has seen their modem" to "hasn't participated in real-world trials". Clearly, the truth lies somewhere in between. I believe that if there were any serious deficiencies in the Aware modems, then it would have turned up in the lab reports. This doesn't mean that it will perform flawlessly in the field, but any deficiencies should be relatively straightforward to correct. I don't see this as a big matter.

But as the title states, please tell me a better ADSL company to invest in. It seems to me that all of the companies have serious soft spots. I simply don't see a clear winner, that stands out from the rest of the field.

Amati has SERIOUS money problems and I am not impressed with their management.

Westell has a great CAP story, but nothing in the DMT market.

ORCTF looks great overseas, but I can't see a small Israeli company being able to strongly compete in the US market. I still see the US market as being the key market.

I think that Aware has a very strong (at least I strongly hope) management team and that they will be able to fix together all of their disjointed pieces (USRX, DSC, ASCEND, ...) into a strong coherent structure, which will produce a reasonable profit. I know that it is a tall order, but since no one really has a good idea how this ADSL market will develop, all of these different pieces provides Aware with many different avenues in which to correctly address the needs of the ADSL market.

So far, I have been pretty impressed with Aware's management. They run a pretty tight ship financially, while not skimping on R&D. Although you claim that most of their licensing deals are only PR, they are at least able to claim partnerships with major vendors, which still have quite a bit of potential (especially the DSC deal). IMHO, Amati was earlier in the position to crush the Aware's of the world, they had the patents and were easily the most visible ADSL company. Now, they are viewed as equals. I simply believe that Aware has better management than the other ADSL companies and that in the long run this will prove to be the key point.

Anyway, this is why I am investing in them. But I could be wrong.
