Jeff, you may have misread my previous post:
I mean investors usually long and hold long. The traders
usually do both long and short. Yes, I agree the historical
pattern the odds are in favor of longs, but there were times
when the market is overheated as we have now, the odds
(or more concisely probability) of certain stocks are in
favor of shorting. But of course this is a very subjective
decision. As in this mar/apr correction, I sensed the
correction for network stocks, but did not act till very
late because my (then) discomfort about shorting stocks. I did
taste a tiny bit of sweets in shorting in Apr. I don't
believe in random walk theory, so I think shorting is
a legitimate trading strategy, to be used sparingly.
I admit I am mostly an investor though.

Sorry to everyone else for this is off topic. But I guess
it is fine since all the fireworks are in the Dell thread,
so this thread is neglected:
Most of the bears thought the Dell climax is concluded, and the
bulls believe they must defend the sacred altar against
the gentile's abuse....
