It doesn't matter what the stated objective was, and that was only one of the stated objectives.

It could be that, in the best interests of the United States of America and in fact, of the free world, we wanted the second or third largest supply of oil reserves to be in the hands of a free nation and not under the control of a treacherous dictator.

Or that we wanted to disorganize that part of the world to lessen the likelihood of a second or third punch coming after the 9/11 New York attack.

And in the process, Iraq gets to try democracy which can then easily spread to other countries in the area and elsewhere around the world without an additional shot being fired.

And the best news is the Iraqis have the money to pay for the whole thing down the road.
