Re: Given the origin of the recall effort and Issa's involvement with it, I don't think that the White House wanted anything to do with it.

Certainly the White House didn't go out of its way to condemn the effort at any point along the way.

And if you think about this in terms of controlling the news cycle, the recall is another weapon of mass distraction.

What is going to be on the Sunday morning gasbag shows? Certainly not anticipatory news about Sen. Carl Levin's committee hearings into Bush lies that led to war. Certainly not the failure of the Bushies to cooperate in the 9/11 investigation. Certainly not Bush's plummeting approval ratings, especially on his handling of the economy.

Nope, the geniuses in the Gross Hypocrisy Party are going to have a field day chatting up Ahhh-nold. A perfect celebrity distraction from reality.

Is Rove behind this? I'm certain he's working on milking this circus for all it is worth.

Did he start it? Probably not.

But will he run with it? Absolutely. It takes heat off Bush.
