no one stood up to the threats from thugs until it was too late to avoid awful consequences.
Hmmmmm......
Remember those guys who stabbed Ceasar in the Forum to try to restore the Republic and get rid of a guy who had had himself declared Dictator for Life?

That's the first example I can think of, but not the last.

The Nazis are strictly a false analogy. By 1939, Germany was militarily the strongest nation in what was militarily the strongest region in the world. Neither of those statements apply to Iraq in 2003.

We are talking about Iraq, right? What is your case that they presented a threat to the United States? Are you serious? We destroyed them in less than 4 days of ground action in 1991. Then they were slammed with embargoes that crippled them since then.

Again: You have evidence they were working with al qaeda? Or other terrorists working against the US? And I said the US; the Israelis take care of themselves.

Speaking of threats to the US: Rememeber NK? During that run-up to war, they announced they had nukes and threatened to use them on the US. But they're no threat?

And Saudi: Fifteen of those nineteen hijackers were Saudis. The Saudis are known to support Islamic fundamentalists. Why were they not high on this hit list? Remember, 15 of their citizens had already hit us. And OBL was Saudi.

<i.Should we do nothing about that, or everything we can?
Does "doing everything we can" include ignoring NK that has nukes and could slip them those terrorists you worry about?

who would project power
Suppose I give you that point. I fail to see that Iraq qualifies.

I know the French feel quite differently about it.
I will not defend the frogs. The problem with them long predates Iraq. I have no use for them. Let's throw them out of NATO and be done with it.

In as many places as necessary.

Iraq is costing $50 billion a month. How do you propose to pay for your global empire ambitions?
