Seems to me that the horse either needs to be in the barn or society should accept the families of homosexuals just like any other family. I can't draw a bright line any place between. I see your point about drawing it where you do in regards to returning the horse. But if you're not going to return the horse, then drawing it there seems too much like letting everyone into the club but homosexuals, which is wrong IMO.
As for things cycling back, you make a good point about it happening naturally. Still, there are lines that society won't cross on the way back, kind of like those spikes that cut your tires if you try to back up. We may cut down on promiscuity and we may get more shacked-up couples to marry, which would be a good thing, don't get me wrong, but which still isn't a barned horse. If all the swing you're looking to get is what I've just described, I don't see how civil unions will deter it. They're just as likely to help it, IMO. |
