Corruption runs deep
Lucky for us we are experienced with that : Soft money, corporations giving employees money so the employee can make legal (<$1000) contributions., and Kenneth Lay who entirely overdid it and gave corruption a bad name

My opinion of Saudi Arabia remains unchanged:
. I believe they paid off OBL to get out of the country and stop embarrassing them or bring wrath down on their regime by operating within their borders.
Would it have been corrupt of Turkey to accept the US offer of $30 bil just to stay out of the action and let us use their bases ?

China's progress is going to make oil , or energy, a highly valued commodity. Gas to run electric plants, gas and oil to make cars and plastic, oil to run them when built.
I think every effort will be made to leave Saudi Arabia alone, let them take care of terrorists internally ( with our technical help if needed) .I Consider that terrorists made a huge mistake by blowing up some buildings there and will no longer be welcome
. Stabilizing the oil producing countries (and thus prices) should be the big effort. I think SA is reasonably stable, but perhaps not Iran. Pipeline deals across the ME become important,as do the Japan/China/ Russia ones
along with the -stans countries
There has to be a stable trusted regime at the valves, and handling the construction costs, and that was not one called Saddam Hussein.
We will have to enjoy the big inefficient SUV's today, because China is going to sop up any future oil surplus.
