"now, ok, lecture me about zone alarm. i shut if off because i thought it was causing the cursor to freeze. i did see a request for msblast to access the internet, and i probably granted it, since i didn't know what it was and i had just opened a program. silly me thought ms stood for microsoft. in order to know where the request is coming from, you need to have more than the free version?"
lecture you? how about try to help you.
granting permission because you didn't know what it was?
very bad.
rule of thumb with zonealarm... when in doubt, say NO. then see what happens. usually more stuff asks for permission then needs it. saying NO is the code of the road.
saying YES, well, it gets you more than you ever bargained for.
if you say NO to a legitimate windows process that then prevents you from doing what you were trying to do, you can always go back and grant permission.
keep in mind that trojans often take names that are very similar to legit processes, to blend in.
and to answer your question, the free version will always tell you what program is asking for access.
i noticed that you said NAV is still shut down on reboot. check your options settings, see if auto-protect is enabled AND if it is set to load when windows starts up. at this point, if indeed you have removed the worm/trojan, then this should put you back to good. |
