A former production manager at a candy company, for example, was asked to take a 30 percent pay cut. He quit instead. He's in his mid-50s, and can't find anything that pays more than $8 an hour. Oh, c'mon... for real????? Why'd he quit, if he could only get $8 elsewhere? What's the rest of this story -- early retirement, a big, fat pension, or maybe statutory or negotiated union benefits to hold him over while he's leisurely looking? No doubt he was making a lot more than $12 an hour ($24,000/year) in his former job as a production manager at a manufacturing company; if so, he cut off his nose to spite his face, unless there are hidden benefits.
