Bush has done nothing to direct the US away from oil consumption and dependence. Our lack of a meaningful energy policy is a failure of leadership. We lag the rest of the world in energy efficiency and that gap is destined to be an economic, environmental and political liability. Our oil dependence requires us to adopt absurd policies to avoid facing issues of global terrorism, global warming and the economics of being overly reliant on cheap oil to keep our economy from stalling out. By the way, the oil in the ground in the ME does not belong to us.
