You said that, "The only Americans I know of that supported Saddam were in the Reagan Admin." Maybe the Reagan Administration, inherited its Iraq policy, from the Carter Administration. Have you considered, that the U.S. supported Iraq in the 80's, because an American Administration in the late 70's may have "green-lighted" the invasion of Iran, by Iraq? - to pressure Iran to release American hostages?
