way to go, China - China May Build Beijing-Shanghai Railway by Itself, AFP Says
Aug. 12 (Bloomberg) -- China may use its own technology to build a high-speed railway linking Beijing and Shanghai instead of granting the $16 billion contract to Japanese, French or German companies, which have been pitching for the project, Agence France-Presse reported, citing China Business Weekly.

China is likely to build the line using domestic technology and imported equipment, China Business quoted Sa Shuli, a railway expert involved in the project, as saying.

The 1,300-kilometer (810-mile) railway, which has been discussed for 10 years, is scheduled to be operating by 2008, in time for the summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
