The batteries are different. The main differences relate to shape, technology, and performance.

Shape: valence's and ultralife's batteries are prismatic whereas tadiran's are cylindrical. As I understand it, Tadiran's "pack" is composed of "800-mA-hr AA Li-metal cells" (same shape and size as AA's sold in stores). These are wired together to make various packs described in the article.

Technology: Ultralife's and Valence's batteries are different derivaties of the Bellcore battery which is in essense a hybrid lithium-ion polymer battery ussually referred to as a "solid state battery." The Tadiran AA battery is a true lithium polymer. However, most of the non-acqueous lithium cells including the Bellcore derivatives are now generically referred to as lithium polymer batteries and thus also fall under that ruberic.

Performance: Tadiran's battery is based on lithium metal. Lithium metal in general offers superior performance (whr/kg and whr/l) to lithium-ion polymer hybrids. However early lithium metal batteries tended to be unstable and restricted in tranportation. Tadiran says their battery does not suffer from any of those problems.

This article touches on some of the differences:

Tadiran Batteries was spun off from Tadiran ealier this year. However, only the parent is traded ADR. For both the positive and the negative on their battery see:

As for my view, I don't like the limitation of the AA configuration but one positive that I did not think of earlier is that all the new Windows CE palm tops currently use AAs.
