Weak demand continues to temper executives' optimism. While they have faith that better times are ahead, executives are looking for a sign - like a boost in consumer spending prompted by lower federal tax withholding - that growth has returned," Brown said.

consumer have been on a buying spree extracting equity from their homes. and the smarter ones have actually reduced their debt instead of increasing it..

not that i do not agree with the lowering of taxes...i simply think it was too little too late...the federal gov't has been spending like they think they are CA or something <gg>

but it certainly does not bode well for the future if execs are looking to lower tax withholding to spur spending.

anyone living that close to the financial edge is probably spending that amount on increased health care, local and state taxes and necessities (the only places where prices seem to be rising)
