Hi Maurice, great post and glad you enjoyed the article. I realized after I posted that it was a bit long, but thought someone might take the time to read it anyway. Your "half-baked theory" sounds very plausible to me.

Thought you would also enjoy this paper from Thomas Gold. It's too long to post, but is an outstanding read. It goes over the history of theories attempting to explain the origin of oil. You may find many elements of yours contained in a few.

Amazing when you think about how little we actually know of the origin of oil, and how important it is not only for foreign affairs decisons, but quality of life planet wide.
