But without metrics like P/E's, btb, earnings estimates and the like then how do we fundamentally value a stock?

Is that not necessary at all?

If not then do we depend on technical analysis alone to determine entry and exit points?

Do we follow only charting methodologies?

Do we trade only with momentum?

Do we buy only when a stock is 70% off its high?

Do we trade by gut feel alone?

Honestly I agree with everything in your post except to say that in order to justify price moves most everyone but you is likely to use some type of reasoning to justify a stock move.

I think you do too.

I think you have a good eye on a lot of different stocks. You buy on weakness and sell on strength. You do it without using any kind of justifying but believe me all those who are short covering AMAT today are using all the excuses they can come up with which include that maybe, just maybe, the market knows something about the future that cannot be derived from last night's earnings report.

It would not surprise me to see AMAT back close to 20 again soon for no other reason than the chart has room to run that high again.
