I think this bliss thing was just a matter of word choice. To me, following one's bliss is not a shallow thing and I'm glad my poor old brain managed to retrieve the word, calling. Neo clearly was disparaging shallow self-gratification when he spoke of bliss. I don't think there's any issue over that.

Neo might argue that a calling to sing opera or rescue abused animals lacked the "dignity" of a calling to raise children or to the clergy, but we're talking about something several levels above deciding between spending time on one's son's homework or chilling with one's wife. And a bazillion levels above whoring around or having the best stereo system in town.
