toward dividend paying stocks in the chase for yield

Been there, done that. Though not recently.

I'm always a bit leery whenever some trend like that becomes popular with the mainstream investors. Even Jim Cramer is touting the dividend plays, not necessarily specific investments.

One thing I did notice about the high-yielding stocks though. The price on the stock slowly escalates until the dividend is paid, and then the stock drops in value almost always by the amount of the dividend, only to repeat the process again. Very few of the high-yielding stocks actually also have retained capital gains. Just something to think about when buying a stock for its dividends.
