The music publication's September issue said Insane Clown Posse "sound even stupider than they look," and derided them for rapping about "40-ouncers and venereal disease." Officials at the band's Psychopathic Records label were less than enthusiastic about the rating. "They've brought themselves up from nothing to become an international musical phenomena (sic), and yet, somehow, they still get no respect from fine mainstream publications such as Blender Magazine," they said in a Web posting (http://www.insaneclownposse.com). They noted that the Insane Clown Posse album dubbed the worst by Blender, "The Wraith: Shangri-La," actually received a three-star review (i.e. very good in its genre) in the publication's January/February issue. No. 2 on the list was 1970s supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer, followed by once-hirsute balladeer Michael Bolton (news), mellow jazz saxophonist Kenny G. and the Jefferson Airplane pop spinoff Starship.
