Japan no longer a shoo-in for China high-speed rail
A senior Japanese government official says China now plans to subdivide the $12.5 billion contract for a high-speed rail link between Beijing and Shanghai, the Financial Times reported Tuesday.

The report came just two days after the China Daily indicated that Chinese officials had decided to build the line themselves, using foreign companies that wanted to do the job as subcontractors.
