The Bush administration has abandoned the idea of giving the United Nations more of a role in the occupation of Iraq as sought by France, India and other countries as a condition for their participation in peacekeeping there, administration officials said today.

We have replaced the USSR as the sugardaddy of former eastern block countries. I wonder how long before we wear our welcome out with them too (or we run out of money, whichever comes first). I understand that we are buying thousands of Kalashnikovs from the Poles to import into Iraq for their new army. Wouldn't be too funny if the Iraqis start turning those guns on them, would it ?
