Several things: 1. I seem to have recovered from msblast.worm. i sucessfully removed it from process and deleted it from the registry. i first installed the patch from msft, and re-installed zone alarm. 2. I tried running the symantec removal tool. It stopped halfway through on several tries. i stopped using it. 4. my NAV auto-protect does not come on with boot up. i have to manually turn it on. this is a result of the worm i believe. i have to uninstall nav and then re-install it, and will do so soon. 3. the issue i had with the cursor freezing, requiring reboot, especially coming out of hibernation, has been resolved. i removed my current mouse and replaced it with a different one. all the problem went away. i likely wore out my dell mouse in almost 2 years of heavy duty use. 4. I think there will be some really ugly computer activity on August 16th, with attack on msft update site. the worm may have planted activity that will still spawn even after the worm was removed. 5. Symantec has received tremendous attention. I think it is a stock to invest in. Security will continue to grow at a phenomenal rate, and annual renewals will fuel a tremendous cash flow machine. Of course, MSFT is planning on entering this biz, likely in a big way. could msft acquire symantec? thanks all for the help on the worm issue, especially mr mark. this has been a frightening issue and, i fear, the precursor of more to come. computer savvy terrorists could launch an attack that would cripple the world information system and cause billions, if not trillions of dollars worth of damage. larry |
