I never saw your Cairo airport story - but it sounds like it would be my worst nightmare Not the worst. On that same trip, we made a stop at Entebbe airport. This was shortly before the hijacking and Israeli raid there. Prior to landing, the KLM pilot made an announcement that we were to close all the window shades and put any cameras well away and to keep our mouths shut the whole time we were unloading and loading passengers. The soldiers that came on the plane in Uganda had their machine guns pointed at us. The ones in Cairo were at least focusing their attention in the opposite direction. Yes, sunrise at Haleakala is right up there.
