If the NIE is the most important intelligence briefing document available, the National Security Advisor to the President of the Unite States needs to do more than read the executive summary -- if he even bothered to do that. What the NIE showed was that we did not know if there were WMDs in Iraq. What the NIE showed was that items like the tubes were not something that experts agreed on. What the NIE showed was that our intel on Iraq dropped off after we withdrew our inspectors from Iraq. What the NIE showed was that there was a vigorous debate on key elements of the case for war -- too bad Rice and Bush thought themselves too important to read it -- I guess with all the campaign fundraising dinners you can't expect the President to be well-informed. As for Rice, with all the time it takes to pick out the right outfit for her next appointment, you cannot expect her to take time to read the NIE.
