Don't get me going on Donne. I have more of Donne memorized than of any two other poets.

I'll be here for hours.

I find both Donne and Augustine fascinating in their abrupt (or seemingly abrupt) transition from libertine to devout. It makes clear that even the most committed agnostic or atheist can transform virtually overnight.

These transitions -- there are many, Donne and Augustine are just two of the more notable ones because they were such excellent writers -- are, for me, subjective evidence of the existence of the divine. There is no evidence that such people are deluded, or confused, or anything other than convinced by the inevitable necessity of accepting the divine existence.

If they can do it, so can others.
