Tenchusatsu, Re: Nor do I want to contribute too much into "do-not-touch until age 59 1/2" accounts.

Roths are not 'do-not-touch until age 59 1/2' accounts. They're 'do-not-touch until age 59 1/2 unless special provisions apply' accounts. And, the 'Taxed in, untaxed out' benefits anyone with at least a 10 year horizon( guaranteed ). Some say 5 years as opposed to a 401K.

401Ks are nice, but Roth is nicer, IMO if you've got the time. (And unless your company is contributing a substantial matching part to the 401K.)

I think it'd be worth your while to read the laws and ask the broker about them.

Re: But I'd rather not do my trading in retirement accounts

LOL.

Trading is an attempt at making profit. Efficient Market Theory (~A Random Walk down Wall Street) illustrates that it's unlikely to earn you a profit in the long run, but if you're going to attempt it (and you seem to, based on your posting on IHUB) there's no better place to take short term profits than in a Roth. Only if you concede you're more likely to lose money than make it by short term trading is it foolish to trade in a Roth.

If you concede that, you may as well not trade short term at all.

Current Roth holdings:
ATSI, FAX, HMC, PAMM 8-9, SWKS, TPTH, cash -- about 10%.

I don't normally trade short term.
