JEC....The WebTV device sits on top of my VCR (it's smaller and blends in quite well) and is connected to the telephone line. Another cable connects into the TV. It took me about ten minutes to set it up and that included reading the instructions. Also you can disconnect it and take it to a friends house and reconnect. The first question the machine asks is are you at the same phone number. If not it searches for a new number to connect you (pretty nifty).

It has a 33.6 modem and takes very little time to connect to the Web. WebTV is a service (like AOL) and because there aren't too many of us yet I have never had to wait minutes/hours to connect like happens to some of my friends at times. The pages are downloaded about the same speed as at work and if a little slow I hit a button and watch a few seconds of TV. I don't believe this device is faster though.

The look and feel of the pages are okay to me. Maybe if I was a computer whiz I would see a difference but I have no problems with these threads, Web magazines or charts which is where I spend 99% of my time. I can't download info onto a disk but I can save pages. I have folders on all my stocks and those I'm researching where I save important info that I come across.

There are a few things I can't do, like chat. Once in a while I will run into a page that says WebTV is not capable of downloading the info (such as moving pictures).

To me this is a device perfect for the novice that is willing to spend $300 and $20 a month. It wouldn't be any good if I couldn't get on the Web. In otherwords you can't buy software games and play them. Once again I am a real novice but I hope this info is of some help.

One last thought, the only thing I have problems with are on some of the pages the links are in very small print and this can be hard to read, but normally everything else is easy to read. Right now I'm sitting in an easy chair with this device sitting on my lap typing away. What could be easier???
