cnyndwllr,

My great fear is that this "ends justifies the means" crew is so criminally insane that they'd pull off a "Super911" just to whip the public into submission. There's a vile and mutant strain that has infested the Department of Death, the progeny of the "Project Northwoods" paranoids. AKA, PNAC and friends.

Bush is no dummy. He knows that his continued ability to rule and rape is based totally on creating fear among the populace. Fear and ignorance among the populace are his best tools. And he uses them brilliantly. That being the royal "he", as in the Royal "We". Since we both know that GWB isn't pulling the strings.

Bush is riding a wild animal. The Department of Death is out of control, and the world doesn't really have the will to control this beast.

Re: Too bad there is no good alternative leadership waiting in the wings.

I disagree. There's plenty of talent on the Democratic side of the divide. After all, the crew that ran things pretty successfully throughtout the 1990s is still around. What I'd love to see a candidate do, in my dreams, is to create a "shadow government" similar to the way this is done in the UK by the loyal opposition. This would offer the Democratic candidate a tremendous boost in the run up to the election. Imagine the tentacles of a new Cabinet all hitting the campaign trail for the cause. That being the ABBS (Anyone But Bush Steamroller). It'd be a wonderful departure from the present lame and silly debate format of the present campaign configuration.
