Military Resale Group Continues Commissary Product Line Expansion With Country Pride Fresh Chicken
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 22, 2003--Military Resale Group, Inc. (OTCBB-MYRG) today announced that it has added the Country Pride brand of fresh chicken products to its line of products distributed to the military commissary system as part of a one-year distribution agreement with ConAgra Foods Inc. The Country Pride line will replace a majority of the fresh chicken products currently supplied by another vendor to the Company for distribution and will be available in the five commissaries served by the Company starting August 1, 2003. In 2002, Military Resale Group's sales of fresh chicken products to military commissaries amounted to approximately $1.8 million.
The addition of the Country Pride product line is part of Military Resale Group's ongoing effort to expand its product offering with unique or high-demand items that currently are not offered in the military commissary system. Commissaries are the large supermarket-type stores operated by the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) to provide grocery items for sale at discounted prices to authorized patrons.
"We continually seek out products that we hope will be best sellers in their category and provide favorable margins to us and fill a need for authorized commissary patrons," said Ethan Hokit, Military Resale Group's president. "Country Pride is a leading brand of fresh chicken in major markets across the country and we are excited to offer it to our commissary customers."
"It is always good to have a 'military only' distributor to handle our customers' product line sales to commissaries. We have a good working relationship with Military Resale Group and are pleased to have the opportunity to expand our product offering through them" said Don Goetz, president of High Plains Marketing, the firm that brokered the agreement between Military Resale Group and ConAgra.
The distribution agreement with ConAgra Foods, one of the nation's largest food companies and the processor of Country Pride chicken, will be assumed by Pilgrim's Pride, the company which recently announced that later this summer it will be acquiring ConAgra's chicken processing operations and its Country Pride product line.
