Ted, Re: According to Bush, neither is Germany or France.

I presume, here, you're talking about the portion of the quote which reads 'is not the equal of the US.'. ( WRT Germany and France. )

If you think Germany, or France, or Germany and France combined are the equal of the US I'd suggest you look up the statistics.

I was talking in terms of our political equals. They definitely are not equal in terms of demographics.......no one really is. We are either bigger or more prosperous or both.

The Louisina purchase had about as much land area as Germany, France, and Spain combined - IIRC. While land area doesn't equal equality I'd say the Louisina Purchase states are, today, better off than equal areas of France and Germany.

I would disagree with that statement. France and Germany are well off areas in terms of income statistics and there would probably not be that much difference between the Lousiana Purchase states and them. In fact, the LP states are not our most prosperous and its very likely they are poorer than Germany and France.

And less 'Tin-Pot'.

I don't know what Tin-Pot is.
