... and a very good one too, with 77,000 entries .... each one is a word in mexicano spanish that has come from another tongue, many from indian dialects but from many others too, and english has a great deal represented .... if you look under the Ps there, you won't find 'el parking', but you should because the term is used by many drivers in México, and understood by almost all [it is shorter and therefore easier than 'el estacionamiento', two syllables in place of eight, pretty easy call to see which will take precedence in fifty years, eh] .... already the snotty professors of Madrid are upset at 'el cloch' [clutch] and 'el mofle' [muffler], well la Raza laughs at them, they don't decide, we do ..... this works the other way too - the words 'algebra' and 'alcohol' came into english from spanish [the spanish having gotten them, along with several thousands other words, from the arabes of course]
Languages are constantly changing, because people choose to change them, and you don't need a government Diktat to effect that change, it's a natural thing, and the business of the individual not the government
'"LONG VEHICLE"' - 'LARGO VEHICULO' .... how confused are you by that, when it's on the back of a big long truck -g- .... no one is suggesting changing traffic signs, to my knowledge, and if anybody is then they're just as stupid as the idiots trying to pass a law to denigrate spanish ..... many countries have standardised the shape and colour of their traffic signs, you wouldn't have to learn much to drive in México, if you enter from the US you get a sheet at the border, it shows the main ones, many are so obvious anyway
Sure you have to standardise, that's a practical consideration anywhere ..... the US is already quite thoroughly standardised though, english is present everywhere in the country, and spanish present where appropriate, where sufficient population of tax-paying hispanos warrants such a presence ..... for the country now to go down the fascist road the quebecois chose, is just stupid, this is a thing the US has righteously avoided all these years, and it would be the height of idiocy to inflame tensions now by reverting to such a tribal hatred |
