Recall how worried some were that a Y2K problem with one electric company that resulted in taking out a power grid might have a domino effect on other grids. Well... it appears that while the first part of said predicament never came to pass, the theory, based on the historic outages of the last few days, seems to have been sound. Which, of course, raises the question of why such a scenario didn't alarm anyone enough to try to fix it years ago.
