Sinotrans, HK code 0598 is an interesting company. The negatives are at once apparent. No dividend, looks overpriced etc. They hope to be China's Fedex, or United Parcel Service.
They are said to be the largest parcel shipper in China. However things are just beginning and they may be surpassed by competitors. UPS themselves have big plans for their China operations. UPS bought 3% of the shares of 0.598HK, which makes me think that they originally intended to go into the Chinese market purely as a coowner. They have stopped buying the shares, might even sell them. Long term the stock looks interesting. It's not a manufacturing company; the latter, according to Jay, who really knows, are slaughtering each other's profits. Size really pays off in the parcel delivery business. The trucks can be operated much more efficiently if you have lots of orders for and from many sites. You don't want to go a long distance with one article or to fetch one article. I don't know many important things about this company. For example do they have a good system for tracking the location of every item? What is their debt level? What is the profit margin on sales? What's the return on equity? Without these numbers how can one buy? It would be nice to peruse their annual report. Does anyone know how to go about obtaining annual reports of Chinese companies, (in Chinese of course)?
