It certainly is a job for private enterprise. Surely you don't think socialist central planning can do a better job!? It is the government mandated monoploy system that created the issue in the first place.

The grid is weak because no one can charge enough for transmission to pay for a better grid. If it weren't for the state-mandated regulated monopolies of the last 100 years, power generation would be far more diversified and robust. Distributed power cogeneration would be far more common and the grid would be as crash-proof as the internet.
